The premature end to the race weekend at the Lusail International Circuit forced Francesco Bagnaia to board an immediate flight back to Italy. The star rider for the Ducati Lenovo Team suffered a heavy crash during the Sprint race, resulting in two fractures in his right foot that require surgical intervention.

The incident occurred when Fermin Aldeguer made contact with the rear of Bagnaia's machine while braking hard into turn 16. The high-speed impact triggered a violent highsider, hurling the two-time world champion to the ground and prompting race control to immediately deploy the red flag while medical personnel attended to the stricken Italian.

Medical evaluations at the circuit's medical center confirmed fractures to the fourth and fifth metatarsals of Bagnaia's right foot. Following initial assessments and consultations in Doha, the decision was finalized to fly the Ducati rider back to Italy overnight so that he could undergo a corrective surgical procedure ahead of the remaining rounds.

Despite the severe disappointment of missing Sunday's Grand Prix after showing genuinely promising pace throughout practice, Bagnaia maintained an admirable perspective. Taking to his social media channels, the Italian rider emphasized that dwelling on past frustrations is no longer an option for his squad.

"What can I say? I will be back soon, guys," Bagnaia stated. "It might sound strange, but Qatar was genuinely one of the best weekends of the season for me. Unfortunately, things sometimes do not go the way you would want, no matter how hard you try to turn the tide. And there is nothing you can do to change that."

Bagnaia concluded by asserting that he and his team have already exhausted too much energy on negative emotions throughout a turbulent campaign, opting instead to channel all efforts into a swift and complete athletic recovery.
