Formula 1, Sportrik Media - FIA has reversed its earlier decision to remove the fourth straight mode zone at Albert Park Circuit after receiving further feedback from teams and drivers ahead of the third practice session of the 2026 Australian Grand Prix.
The original decision to remove Straight Mode Zone 4, located between Turns 8 and 9, was taken following concerns raised by drivers during Friday evening’s briefing in Melbourne. Several drivers had warned that the low-downforce configuration in the fast sweeping section could present a safety risk.
However, after teams were informed of the change on Saturday morning, a number of them raised objections, arguing that the sudden adjustment would significantly impact the car setups they had already developed during Friday’s practice sessions.

Following additional discussions and analysis, the governing body decided to rescind the change shortly before the start of FP3.
In a statement issued to media, including RacingNews365, the FIA confirmed that the straight mode zone would remain active.
“Following the feedback received in the last hour from teams and drivers, and additional analysis contributed by teams, the decision to remove Straight Mode zone #4 for Albert Park is rescinded,” the statement read.
“For the avoidance of doubt, this amendment is effective immediately, and Straight Mode activation Zone 4 will be used in FP3.”
The FIA also noted that the situation remains under review and that further evaluation will take place during and after the FP3 session.
As teams continue to adapt to the new straight mode system introduced under the latest Formula 1 regulations, the governing body will analyse the data collected from the session before confirming whether any further adjustments are required for qualifying and the race.
