Promoter Mayfield Sports Entertainment has officially announced the third permanent wildcard for the upcoming world championship. The decision goes to Dan Bewley, following the prior announcements confirming spots for Maciej Janowski and Jack Holder. This nomination for the British rider has immediately caught the attention of global racing fans considering the fierce competition in the paddock.
The 27-year-old rider from Cumbria actually started the season on a very impressive note. At the opening round held in Landshut, he remained undefeated in the heats before ultimately finishing behind surprise winner Kacper Woryna in the final. Unfortunately, that positive momentum came to a sudden halt when he suffered a severe crash during a league race in Outrup, Denmark, resulting in a broken thigh bone and spinal compression.

That heavy injury forced Dan Bewley to sit out almost the entire season, aside from the final two rounds in Vojens and Torun which landed him 16th in the final standings. His fifth-place finish in Torun served as a strong signal that he is well on his way back to the elite ranks of world speedway.

The previous season's bronze medalist welcomed the special quota decision to look ahead to next season with much better preparation. "I am grateful for the wildcard, looking forward to the winter and to being back 100 percent next year," said Dan Bewley regarding the trust placed in him.
He also added that his recovery process still requires time to completely overcome physical constraints on the bike. "It was nice to return to Torun and contest the final Grand Prix, which went quite well. I just need time - it's hard to enjoy the whole thing when you are constantly in slight pain and trying to push it aside. From meeting to meeting I'm getting better, but in certain areas I'm still quite weak. That's exactly where I have pain, it's the lack of strength. But it's getting better," he added. With one remaining permanent wildcard widely expected to go to long-injured Swedish rider Fredrik Lindgren, the starting grid for the prestigious series is shaping up fiercely.
