Lewis Hamilton faced another major hurdle ahead of qualifying at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace Interlagos as technical gremlins struck his Scuderia Ferrari during the final practice session of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The British veteran headed into the track action carrying a 10-place grid penalty for Sunday's main race after taking a brand-new internal combustion engine in his SF-26.
Trouble struck Scuderia Ferrari thirty-five minutes into the session when Hamilton abruptly radioed his pit wall to report that he had smoke inside the cockpit of his car and was immediately aborting his run to limp back to the pit lane.
Upon pulling safely into his designated pit box, thick plumes of smoke visibly billowed from various areas of the car bodywork. Circuit reports indicated that the pungent odor inside the garage was strongly reminiscent of burning oil.

Ferrari mechanics quickly pushed the car backward into the safety of the garage while Hamilton stepped out of the cockpit. With the damage done, the British driver was forced to miss the vital qualifying simulation runs at the end of the session, severely denting his preparation.
Meanwhile, teammate Charles Leclerc, who also received a fresh ICE unit for this weekend, had to navigate the remainder of the session alone. The sudden reliability setback leaves the Maranello squad facing immense pressure to recover ahead of the all-important qualifying battle.
