An extraordinary spectacle awaits motorsport enthusiasts as the Rally de Historico Asturias Carlos Sainz Tribute event gets underway in Pravia, Asturias, next weekend. Carlos Sainz, the 1990 and 1992 world champion and four-time Dakar Rally winner, is set to thrill crowds by piloting a remarkably modern and powerful machine.
Prior to the main tribute event, the legendary Spanish driver was spotted getting back behind the wheel of an older Ford Escort WRC to test the waters. However, organizers and partners have pulled off a major coup, giving him access to a cutting-edge top-tier rally weapon that recently concluded its championship era.
The major revelation was shared directly by the driver himself through his official social media channels, expressing deep gratitude for the special tribute dedicated to his illustrious motorsport career.

"It’s a Rally1 car, and I’ll get to drive a latest-generation rally car," Sainz revealed. "There’s not long to go until the historic Asturias rally in Pravia. They’ve decided to dedicate the event to my career, which I’m tremendously grateful for."
Crucial backing from both major automotive and energy brands made the appearance possible, bridging his ongoing partnership in cross-country endurance racing with a special return to high-speed stage rallying.
"That surprise has now been confirmed, and I want to say a huge thank you to both Ford and Red Bull for bringing a Ford Puma Rally1 to the event," Sainz continued.
Returning to asphalt stages presents a unique thrill for the veteran competitor, who has spent years away from high-grip tarmac rallies while maintaining his legendary speed in demanding endurance events.
"I’ll get to drive a latest-generation rally car. It’s been so many years since I last drove on asphalt, and now I’ll also have the opportunity to drive this fantastic car, whose homologation, incidentally, expires at the end of this year," Sainz said.
Sharing the cabin once again with his long-time co-driver Luis Moya, the duo is eagerly anticipating the chance to unleash the car before the passionate fans gathered in northern Spain.
"Luis and I are really excited to see the car and try it out. We hope to see you all there in Asturias," he concluded.
