Ryan Walkinshaw has spoken out about the controversial late pit stop strategy involving Jarrod Hughes and Cooper Murray that ultimately shifted points in favor of Anton De Pasquale and eliminated Ryan Wood from the Finals Series.

The sudden pit stops raised eyebrows across the paddock because Hughes and Murray pilot the same Chevrolet machinery as De Pasquale. Speaking to Speedcafe post-race, Walkinshaw labeled the dual stops as extremely interesting while downplaying direct allegations of collusion between the competing outfits.

“That’s also what the Finals is all about. It adds in a lot of different elements, which makes it really exciting,” Walkinshaw told Speedcafe, emphasizing the dramatic narrative points generated throughout the race for the fans watching at home.

While Supercars head of motorsport Tim Edwards denied any involvement from General Motors in the race outcome, Walkinshaw admitted that taking a pit stop at that precise juncture was highly unusual. He noted that such strategic games are simply part of the intense pressure cooker that defines the Finals Series format.

Earlier in the event, Walkinshaw TWG teammate Chaz Mostert sacrificed his own shot at victory by dropping back to act as a rear-gunner to protect Wood from Andre Heimgartner. Walkinshaw acknowledged that while team sacrifices are heavy, they reflect the unified approach required to navigate the championship battle.
