Nicolo Bulega insists he always has an answer when Iker Lecuona turns up the aggression. The Ducati rider swept all three wins at the French WorldSBK round at Magny-Cours last weekend.

Those three victories took Bulega’s season tally to 26. One more would equal Alvaro Bautista’s 2023 total. Though the title isn’t mathematically sealed yet, Bulega once again showed his superiority over his Aruba.it Racing Ducati teammate.

Lecuona had complained on Saturday about the red flag timing that shortened Race 1, feeling he was stronger on used tyres than Bulega. Yet Bulega won by over five seconds in Race 2, which was also red-flagged but only one lap shorter.

“Iker was very strong all weekend, but every time he pushes more, I put more on the table,” Bulega told WorldSBK.com after Race 2. “So, it’s good to win, especially Race 2, the last race of the weekend – it’s important. Now, I’m very much looking forward to going to Cremona. I’m in good shape with my bike, so I’m happy.”

Bulega reiterated that his main goal is race wins, not just the championship. He acknowledged a big chance to seal the title at home in Cremona but remains focused on victories. “I think we have a big advantage now,” he said. “Cremona could be very nice to win the title there. But important for me is to win races. So, the championship, okay, but it’s important to continue winning races.”

He also recalled last year’s Cremona event, where he had doubts but ended up winning three races against Toprak Razgatlioglu. “Last year, before Cremona, I said it would be difficult, and then I won three races against Toprak. So, for sure Iker will be strong, but I will try to beat him again.”

Bulega heads to Cremona with a 146-point lead over Lecuona. After Cremona, only two rounds remain with 124 points on offer. If Bulega can avoid losing more than 22 points to his teammate at his home round, he will be crowned world champion.
