A technical infringement has reshaped the grid for the final stretch of the Boost Mobile Gold Coast 500 after Cameron Waters faced a post-session penalty following the Top Ten Shootout. The Tickford Racing driver saw his qualifying performance scrutinized after stewards found a technical discrepancy on his Ford Mustang, stripping him of his initial eighth-place starting berth and dropping him further down the order ahead of Sunday's crucial racing action.
The controversy centered around a technical data report issued by the championship's technical department regarding the right rear tyre of Car 6. Regulations mandate a strict minimum tyre pressure threshold of 16 psi during active track sessions. However, rigorous post-session data analysis revealed that the pressure on the right rear corner dipped below the allowable limit, dropping to a recorded measurement of 15.741 psi during the high-speed timed lap around the demanding street circuit.
According to the official stewards' summary, telemetry proved that the tyre pressure was comfortably above the mandatory minimum while the vehicle idled at pit exit waiting to commence its flying lap. The pressure remained compliant right up until the car left the pit lane, only to bleed off and fall below the legal threshold once the machine was fully engaged in its push lap. "He explained the data establishes that Car 6’s right rear tyre pressure while it was at Pit Exit waiting to start its lap was above and remained above the required minimum pressure until the Car started its timed lap, but then lost pressure on the lap," the stewards' report stated.

During the subsequent hearing, the competitor’s authorized representative and the car's dedicated data engineer raised no objections to the factual accuracy of the telemetric data presented by officials. The defense offered a hypothesis that shifting climatic conditions surrounding the coastal circuit might have triggered the unexpected deflation. Nonetheless, Supercars' Technical Manager firmly rejected the likelihood of environmental factors causing such a localized pressure drop.
While investigators explicitly noted an absence of any deliberate malice or premeditated effort by the squad to circumvent the strict sporting code, Rule D17.1.18 is enforced under mandatory terms with zero tolerance. Because the legal minimum parameter was not maintained continuously while the vehicle operated on the circuit, the mandatory sanction of exclusion from the specific session was enforced. This demotion promoted Chaz Mostert and other trailing competitors upward in the final classification as the paddock prepared for the afternoon's main event.
