Will Brown faced a disastrous qualifying session at Sandown, failing to advance to Q2 due to a persistent gear lever issue. The problem, which he described as "lazy," caused the gear to stick in third at Turn 1, forcing a manual override that ruined his rhythm and led to a front-wheel lockup. According to Brown, the mechanical hiccup threw his entire lap out of sync, and he admitted that his choice to conserve fresh rubber may have been a tactical miscalculation.
"When I went down to third gear at Turn 1 it got stuck down and then I had to pull the gear lever back and that put me out of sync and I locked a front wheel on my lap," Brown stated, expressing his frustration with the team's qualifying pace. He took full responsibility for the strategy call, acknowledging that the lack of fresh tires at the end of the session left him struggling to recover the lost time.
This qualifying setback compounds a difficult weekend for Brown, who already suffered a spin while battling Brodie Kostecki and a post-race penalty following an incident with Cameron Hill. Currently sitting 88 points below the cut-off for the final four title contenders heading into the Adelaide Grand Final, Brown faces an uphill battle to keep his championship aspirations alive.

Meanwhile, Matt Payne continued his impressive Saturday form, topping the qualifying charts for the Top 10 Shootout. The Chevrolet trio of Anton De Pasquale, Zach Bates, and Cooper Murray showcased strong pace, securing the next three spots on the grid. The session also saw a rebound from Kai Allen and consistent efforts from Thomas Randle, further tightening the field.
As the team shifts focus toward tyre degradation management for the remaining Sandown race, the pressure on Brown is immense. He remains focused on working through the pack, emphasizing that while the starting position is less than ideal, the team will experiment with car setup to salvage as many points as possible before the season finale.
