Belgian Firm Dumarey Group Secures Renault Viry Engine Facility

Renault has officially secured a buyer for its Viry factory, agreeing to sell the Viry-Chatillon engine facility to Belgian company Dumarey Group. This strategic transition follows Renault's decision to curtail its in-house Formula 1 engine programme, a move that previously cast uncertainty over the future of hundreds of employees at the historic French site.

According to an official statement, the Dumarey Group—which specialises in the technology and development of powertrains and engineering components for mass-produced vehicles—is fully prepared to take control of the facility located in the southern suburbs of Paris. The acquisition proposal has been formally submitted to Alpine Racing, with both parties currently analysing the entire organization and its financial structure to ensure a seamless operational handover.

The agreement dictates that Dumarey Group will acquire Alpine Racing SAS in Viry-Chatillon, encompassing all teams as well as the tangible and intangible assets required to keep the site operational. Viry served as the heartbeat of Renault's Formula 1 engine endeavours for several decades, establishing itself as a vital cornerstone of motorsport engineering in France before the brand opted for a customer power unit deal with Mercedes.

Furthermore, the transaction could yield profound implications for Alpine's Hypercar campaign in the World Endurance Championship, especially as the manufacturer prepares to exit its current engine involvement. Factory partner Signatech had previously explored potential collaborations with Chinese automotive giant Geely, though talks reportedly broke down ahead of upcoming championship deadlines.

Highlighting the motivations behind the purchase, the Dumarey Group stated that the acquisition allows them to diversify into motorsport while leveraging Renault's rich F1 engine expertise for future racing outfits. Axel Plasse, VP Alpine Tech, added: “This transaction represents a strong and coherent opportunity to secure and further develop the expertise of the Viry-Chatillon site, opening up new prospects for employees.”
