Renault has secured a definitive buyer for its historic Viry-Chatillon facility, agreeing to sell the factory to Belgian powertrain specialist Dumarey Group following the termination of its in-house Formula 1 engine programme. According to an official statement, the Dumarey Group—widely recognized for its expertise in propulsion technology and engineering components for mass production—is fully prepared to assume operational control of the French manufacturing site.
The acquisition proposal has already been formally submitted to Alpine Racing, with both corporate entities currently working diligently to evaluate the entire organizational framework and financial standing to ensure a seamless transition. Located in the southern suburbs of Paris, the Viry facility served as the beating heart of Renault's premier motorsport engineering efforts for decades, establishing itself as a cornerstone of French automotive innovation.
Under the terms of the transaction, Dumarey Group will acquire Alpine Racing SAS at Viry-Chatillon, encompassing all specialized teams along with the tangible and intangible assets necessary to maintain full site operations. The drastic shift comes after Renault pulled the plug on its internal engine department to transition toward a customer power unit supply deal with Mercedes, a move that initially raised serious concerns regarding the job security of hundreds of employees at the site.

Furthermore, the transaction carries profound implications for Alpine's endurance racing initiatives, given that the brand is exiting the World Endurance Championship at the conclusion of the season. The Viry facility was previously instrumental in maintaining and assembling the Mecachrome-built engines powering the A424 LMDh machines. Reflecting on the agreement, the Dumarey Group emphasized its strategic intent to diversify into motorsport, noting that the deal creates substantial opportunities to leverage Renault's legacy F1 engine expertise for future racing applications. Meanwhile, Axel Plasse, VP Alpine Tech, stated that the transaction represents a robust opportunity to safeguard and further develop the high-level expertise anchored at Viry-Chatillon.
