MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Aprilia has conducted the first on-track test of its 2027 MotoGP 850cc prototype at Jerez, with Lorenzo Savadori completing the initial laps during a private session.
The test represents an early phase in the transition towards the new technical regulations set to be introduced in 2027. Prior to this outing, Aprilia had carried out bench testing and gathered preliminary tyre data with Pirelli using its current 1000cc RS-GP machine. The Jerez run marks the first real-world validation of the new package under circuit conditions.

The 2027 MotoGP regulations introduce substantial technical changes, including a reduction in engine capacity to 850cc, a switch in tyre supplier from Michelin to Pirelli, and tighter aerodynamic restrictions. In addition, ride-height devices will be banned, and all bikes will be required to run on 100% non-fossil fuel, signalling a major shift in the championship’s technical direction.

From a design perspective, the prototype appears to incorporate early 2027-spec aerodynamic concepts, featuring a revised nose profile and a more pronounced front wing configuration. Notably, the bike does not feature any seat-mounted wing elements, aligning with the stricter aerodynamic limitations defined in the upcoming rules.
Savadori’s role as test rider is central to this development phase, given his experience in delivering consistent technical feedback. The data collected during this session will be used to evaluate key parameters such as balance, engine characteristics, and aerodynamic interaction with the new tyre specification.
This debut also highlights the intensity of manufacturer preparation ahead of the regulatory overhaul. With a limited development window before full implementation, each test session becomes critical in shaping both performance potential and design direction.
As one of the first manufacturers to run a 2027-spec machine on track, Aprilia’s initial findings from Jerez will provide an important reference point for ongoing development. Further testing phases are expected as the project evolves towards broader evaluation within the MotoGP paddock.
