MotoGP is set to leave Phillip Island behind and move to Adelaide from 2027. Deputy CEO Carlos Ezpeleta has made it clear that the new circuit meets the series' safety and run-off requirements.
The shift has raised questions, especially since Adelaide was historically a street circuit. However, after seeing the renderings and AI-simulated video, riders and fans are feeling more reassured.
Not Just Another Street Circuit
Ezpeleta emphasized that Adelaide is not a Monaco-style street circuit. Instead, it will be a permanent circuit set within a city, with carefully calculated run-off areas.
“These aren't random AI-generated images; they're a precise computational model,” Ezpeleta said at MotorLand Aragon. “We've worked closely with the FIM and Loris Capirossi to ensure the highest safety standards for MotoGP 2027.”
A significant investment of 60 million euros has been made to build the circuit. The design aims to deliver spectacular racing without compromising safety.
Reassurance Amid Historic Move
The move marks the end of an era for the legendary Phillip Island. But Adelaide promises an exciting new chapter for MotoGP, with full support from the South Australian government.
“We're very pleased with the result,” added Ezpeleta. “This circuit will be one of the safest on the calendar, and we're confident riders will love it.”
Preparation will continue until November next year, ahead of the 2027 Australian Grand Prix, expected to take place around October-November, aligning with the Asian leg of the calendar.
With all its advantages, Adelaide is ready to be a proud host for MotoGP. Can it replace the charm of Phillip Island? Only time will tell.
