Supercars driver Aaron Cameron is set to join OTAP Racing for the Nankang World Excel Enduro, teaming up with team owner and Queensland Excel regular Caleb Paterson. The pair will pilot the #101 entry in the event, which forms part of the QLD Excel Cup and will be run on the fourth round of the Queensland Racing Drivers Championship (QRDC) on September 26-27.

The partnership came together spontaneously after the two raced against each other in this year's GT4 Australia season. "Aaron and I were just talking at some GT4 events and he mentioned the Excel enduro," Paterson told Speedcafe. "Him and I have had some pretty cool races together – like QR and Darwin – racing each other in the GT4, and then I just hit him up with the question if he wanted to do it. Sure enough, he was keen as!"

Paterson, who also runs OTAP Racing, admitted he doesn't have many connections in the motorsport world. However, a conversation with Cameron's team manager at Multispares Racing, Brett Peters, who also runs the Excel Cup in Queensland, opened the door. "I was chatting to him as well. He said, 'yeah Aaron would probably be keen.' So I hit him up – and sure enough, he was keen as!"

Despite Cameron's experience in various categories, including TCR Australia, he needed a moment to readjust to front-wheel drive. "He's driven a lot of stuff over the years, he's very experienced," Paterson said. "We've already had him out there at QR in the Excel and he was pretty much straight on the pace. He had a bit of a bottle at the start, forgot that front wheel drive means plant it when you have a slide, but other than that, he was straight on the pace, which is cool."

Paterson also noted their similar approach to racing. "We're out there to win, but we're also there to have a shit-tonne of fun. It was just a spur-of-the-moment thing. I haven't been around the sport myself for a long time and I don't have many connections in the motorsport world. It was just lucky enough that we were racing against each other, and I think we're pretty alike with the way we go racing."

The Nankang World Excel Enduro will feature other categories such as the AU4 Championship, Hot Hatches, and Australian Trans Am. Livestreaming will be provided by Blend Line TV. The event is expected to be a thrilling spectacle for local racing fans, especially with Cameron bringing his Supercars experience.

With Cameron's speed and Paterson's Excel knowledge, the duo is poised for a strong performance. "He jumped out of the car, reckoned he had some fun and he can't wait to get to banging doors with some other guys," Paterson concluded. This event also provides Cameron with an opportunity to stay sharp amidst his Supercars commitments.
