Under the brilliant glow of the Lusail International Circuit floodlights, Fabio di Giannantonio delivered a masterclass, smashing the lap record to lead Friday's Practice session at the 2026 Qatar MotoGP. The Pertamina VR46 Ducati rider clocked a blistering 1m50.406s, proving that his top-speed struggles from previous rounds are well behind him at a venue where he claimed his maiden victory in 2023.
The session served as a high-stakes arena for the championship contenders. Marc Marquez, currently leading the standings, showcased his characteristic grit. Despite suffering a technical issue with one of his Ducatis during the session, he managed to secure second place, safely punching his ticket to Q2.
Aprilia Racing saw a strong showing from Marco Bezzecchi, who spearheaded the charge in third, while Pecco Bagnaia appeared to find his rhythm again, securing a solid fourth-place finish. Their performances underscore the intense technical battle currently unfolding within the Italian manufacturer's ranks.

Meanwhile, Jorge Martin provided a promising update on his physical recovery. Despite still managing a hand injury, he successfully navigated into seventh place to secure a Q2 spot, keeping his championship aspirations alive in this critical late-season showdown.
The biggest disappointment of the evening belonged to Red Bull KTM's Pedro Acosta. The young star could only manage 14th, leaving him to face the daunting task of navigating through Q1 during Saturday's qualifying. It is a setback that adds significant pressure to his weekend.
The session also marked the return of Fermin Aldeguer, who was declared fit to ride, though he too will have to fight through Q1. With the field separated by fractions of a second, the stage is perfectly set for a dramatic qualifying session in the desert.
