The Lusail International Circuit once again served as the stage for high-stakes drama under the floodlights. During Friday's practice session for the 2026 Qatar MotoGP, Fabio di Giannantonio stole the spotlight, setting a blistering pace to lead the pack and break the lap record at this iconic desert venue. Amidst a tightening championship battle, points leader Marc Marquez remained a dominant force despite a mid-session mechanical setback.

Marquez, riding for the Ducati Lenovo team, was forced to be pushed back to the pits after a chain failure interrupted his run. However, the Spaniard's championship mettle shone through; upon returning with fresh rubber, he immediately surged back to the top of the timesheets, confirming his status as the man to beat. His teammate, Pecco Bagnaia, also looked back on form, securing fourth place as the manufacturer continues its dominance in Qatar.
Meanwhile, the Aprilia Racing garage was a hive of activity. Marco Bezzecchi had set the pace early in race trim, but ultimately finished third behind the flying Di Giannantonio. Jorge Martin, currently managing a wrist injury, successfully secured a spot in the top ten, guaranteeing his direct entry into Qualifying 2.

The session also highlighted a struggle for others. Sepang Sprint winner Pedro Acosta faces the prospect of Qualifying 1 after missing out on the top ten. Conversely, Honda HRC Castrol replacement rider Jake Dixon showed significant progress, shaving two seconds off his FP1 time as he continues to adapt to the machine.
For Marquez, the Lusail weekend is a defining moment. With the championship within reach, he knows that outscoring his rivals this weekend could be the decisive step toward clinching the 2026 crown. The tension under the 5,000 floodlights is palpable as the field prepares for a critical qualifying session.
