The iconic Interlagos circuit roared into life for the opening session of the 2026 F1 Brazil Grand Prix, with Lando Norris making an immediate statement. Equipped with a suite of new aerodynamic upgrades, the McLaren driver topped the timesheets with a blistering 1m11.717 lap, signaling a determined effort to reclaim momentum this weekend.
Freshly crowned 2026 world champion Kimi Antonelli proved why he is the benchmark, slotting his Mercedes into second place, just 0.082 seconds adrift of Norris. The intensity at the front remains palpable, with Max Verstappen rounding out the top three for Red Bull, finishing 0.236 seconds off the pace.
Ferrari’s morning was characterized by a focus on consistency amidst the ongoing internal narrative regarding team hierarchy. Lewis Hamilton and George Russell secured fourth and fifth respectively, navigating the complex technical demands of the Brazilian track. Further down the order, the performance of youngsters like Gabriele Mini and local hero Gabriel Bortoleto highlighted the immense depth of talent currently populating the grid.
As the paddock digests the data from this opening session, the focus now shifts to tire management and long-run pace. With the championship stakes high and the technical nuances of Interlagos always ready to punish mistakes, the battle for pole position promises to be a thriller.
