Yuki Tsunoda Vows to 'Smash It' in New Red Bull F1 Role for 2026?

Formula 1, Sportrik Media – Japanese driver Yuki Tsunoda has declared he will "smash" any opportunity that arises in his new position as test and reserve driver for Oracle Red Bull Racing in 2026. After losing his full-time race seat due to a challenging 2025 season alongside Max Verstappen, Tsunoda remains optimistic about gaining a fresh perspective from the sidelines.

The 2025 season proved tough for Yuki Tsunoda, promoted to the senior Red Bull team after just two races, replacing Liam Lawson. He struggled to adapt to the RB21, scoring only 30 points compared to Verstappen's haul, despite flashes like a sixth-place finish in Azerbaijan.

Red Bull confirmed Isack Hadjar as Tsunoda's replacement alongside Verstappen for 2026, with Arvid Lindblad debuting next to Lawson at Visa Cash App RB.

In interviews with media including RacingNews365, Yuki Tsunoda expressed excitement about the new role.

"I'm excited to see from a different perspective, through different eyes, next year," he said. "It's the first time in my career that I'm not racing. I was never really sitting down in the office while people were racing, so I can't refer to this way."

"I can see more of the view, have the communications, [hear] whatever every driver is doing, so maybe I can learn a lot of things that I never imagined, so I'm excited for that."

Furthermore, Tsunoda emphasized maintaining peak condition for any potential race chance.

"I also will still try to be in this shape as much as possible," he stated. "Whenever any opportunity comes, I'll smash it with that opportunity. So until then, keep my shape good and wait for it."

Deeper analysis indicates this reserve role could serve as a springboard, similar to paths taken by Alexander Albon or Sergio Perez previously. With new 2026 regulations and the shift to Red Bull Powertrains, Tsunoda's testing input may prove vital.
