Formula 1, Sportrik Media - Scuderia Ferrari faces a critical opportunity at the 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix to end a prolonged winless streak, as the team strives to avoid going a full year without a grand prix victory. Team principal Fred Vasseur highlighted the unique challenges of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, situated 2,240 meters above sea level, as a key factor in Ferrari’s quest for a breakthrough win.

Among Formula 1’s top teams, Ferrari stands alone in failing to secure a full-distance race win in 2025. The team’s last grand prix triumph came at the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix, courtesy of Carlos Sainz. Since then, only a sprint race victory by Lewis Hamilton at the Chinese Grand Prix has kept Ferrari’s hopes alive. Without a win this weekend, the team will mark an unwanted milestone of 12 months without a victory on October 27, 2025.

Fred Vasseur acknowledged the intense competition, noting, “The field is very, very tight. It’s a matter of tenths of seconds.” Despite the challenges, he remains focused on leveraging Ferrari’s strengths. The high-altitude conditions in Mexico demand meticulous management of engine cooling, a factor Vasseur identified as critical to success.

The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez’s extreme elevation creates thinner air, impacting aerodynamics and engine performance. “Mexico is a bit different because you need to keep the cooling under control all weekend,” Vasseur explained. This technical hurdle poses a significant challenge for Ferrari as they aim to outpace rivals like McLaren F1 Team and Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 Team.

Ferrari showed promise in FP3, with Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finishing second and fourth, respectively, behind Lando Norris. However, the team must optimize its setup to compete in the race, where tire management and cooling efficiency will be decisive.

Ferrari is pushing relentlessly to reclaim its winning form. “We are pushing as a team to come back and try to win a race before the season ends,” Vasseur affirmed. The team’s ability to adapt to the circuit’s demands and capitalize on the strong performances of Hamilton and Leclerc will be crucial. With fierce competition from top drivers like Norris and Max Verstappen of Oracle Red Bull Racing, Ferrari’s strategic execution will determine their success.

The 2025 Mexico City Grand Prix represents Ferrari’s final chance to end their winless streak and avoid a year-long drought. With Hamilton and Leclerc showing competitive pace and Vasseur’s leadership guiding the team, Ferrari is poised for a potential “Mexican miracle.” Stay updated with in-depth analysis and the latest Formula 1 news on SPORTRIK.
