MotoGP, Sportrik Media - Fermin Aldeguer remains a potential option for Gresini Racing for the 2027 MotoGP season, according to team manager Michele Masini, as negotiations with Ducati continue.

Aldeguer stepped up to MotoGP in 2025 with Gresini under a contract initially signed in early 2024 with Ducati, which then placed him within its satellite structure. However, heading into 2027—when new 850cc regulations will be introduced—Gresini has yet to secure a renewal agreement with Ducati and currently has no riders confirmed for that season.

Masini confirmed that discussions with Ducati are ongoing and that no definitive direction has been finalised regarding the team’s technical partnership or rider line-up. He emphasised that Aldeguer remains among several options under consideration.

“Our situation is that we are still speaking with Ducati,” Masini told the MotoGP world feed during the delay before the Sprint race in Brazil.

He further highlighted that multiple rider scenarios remain open for 2027, with Aldeguer included in those strategic considerations.

“We have a lot of options regarding the riders for 2027. One of those is Fermin Aldeguer. I think all options are on the table, and we just need more time,” he added.

These comments follow reports linking Aldeguer with a potential move to the VR46 Racing Team for the 2027 season. The speculation gained traction after remarks from Pablo Nieto, who described Aldeguer as one of the top two young talents currently in MotoGP.

From a performance standpoint, Aldeguer’s 2026 campaign has been disrupted by injury. The Spaniard missed the entire pre-season after suffering a femur fracture during winter training and only returned to competition at the Brazilian Grand Prix, having been replaced by Michele Pirro in Thailand.

Despite the setback, Aldeguer demonstrated competitive pace in qualifying, securing seventh place in Q2 ahead of his team-mate Alex Marquez. However, his Sprint race was compromised at the start after losing rear traction off the line, dropping to 18th on the opening lap before recovering to finish 14th.

The situation leaves Aldeguer’s future open as Gresini continues to evaluate both its technical alignment and rider strategy ahead of the 2027 regulation shift. With negotiations ongoing and interest from rival teams, a clearer picture is expected to emerge in the coming months as preparations intensify for MotoGP’s next technical era.
