A promising weekend for Zonta van den Goorbergh came to a premature end at the Lusail International Circuit. The Momoven Idrofoglia RW Racing Team rider was forced to retire from the race following a collision on lap 13.
The incident occurred while Van den Goorbergh was deep in a fierce battle for the final points-scoring positions. He was clipped by Deniz Oncu, which sent him sliding off his bike. While race direction promptly handed Oncu a Long Lap penalty for causing the crash, the decision offered little consolation to the Dutchman, whose race was effectively ruined.
Reflecting on the disappointment, the rider expressed his frustration regarding the turn of events. "I was driven off my bike, and that was the end of my race. I was in quite a lot of pain afterward, but fortunately, it seems that everything is alright. It is a big disappointment, especially after the positive progress we showed yesterday," he remarked.

This outcome is particularly frustrating given the strong form Van den Goorbergh displayed throughout the weekend. He successfully navigated his way into Q2 after a tough session in Q1, although a three-place grid penalty ultimately forced him to start from 18th. His efforts to climb through the field were abruptly halted by the collision.
In the meantime, the Moto2 victory in Qatar went to Daniel Holgado, who led home Ivan Ortola and Alex Escrig. With this DNF, Van den Goorbergh remains on 14 points, holding 25th in the standings. He will now focus on a recovery period before returning to action for the final two rounds of the 2026 season.
