Big news from the WorldSBK paddock: Yamaha has officially confirmed that Xavi Vierge will leave the Pata Maxus Yamaha team at the end of the 2026 season. This decision clears the path for the anticipated arrival of Jack Miller in 2027.
Vierge, a former Moto2 podium finisher, switched to WorldSBK with Honda in 2022 before joining Yamaha at the start of this year. He currently sits 13th in the world championship, directly behind team-mate Andrea Locatelli, who is the leading Yamaha rider.
With Vierge's departure, a vacancy alongside Locatelli opens up for 2027. Miller, who lost his Pramac Yamaha MotoGP ride to Izan Guevara, is expected to make the switch to WorldSBK. This move is drawing attention as Miller is known for his aggressive style and extensive experience in the premier class.
High Praise for Vierge
Niccolo Canepa, Road Racing Sporting Manager of Yamaha Motor Europe, expressed his gratitude. "Xavi has shown incredible professionalism and determination throughout 2026. We are very grateful for everything he has brought to the project and for all his hard work this season," he said. He also acknowledged the challenging year, but noted that Vierge has always been a great person to have in the project.
Team principal Paul Denning didn't hide his regret. "Personally, I can speak for every single person within the team that it is with huge regret that we are unable to continue with Xavi into the 2027 season. His quick adaptation to the R1, raw speed, bravery, and technical clarity will be missed," Denning said. He added that Vierge is a rare individual, well-liked and deeply respected by everyone he meets.
Vierge's exit is certainly an emotional moment, but behind it, the door for Miller's future in WorldSBK is opening wider. Can Miller bring his MotoGP experience to compete at the front? We'll have to wait and see.
