The World Rally Championship season has just concluded, but a complicated situation is currently shrouding the Hyundai camp. Results often fell short of expectations throughout the year, although the campaign ended on a small positive note when the pairing of Thierry Neuville and his co-driver set the fastest time on the Rally Sardinia Power Stage. Nevertheless, the rally itself proved to be a difficult outing for the Belgian duo, who ultimately finished only 15th overall in the standings.

This challenging predicament has sparked intense speculation regarding their professional continuity in international rallying. Speaking to Belgian news channel RTBF, the navigator opened up about his mixed emotions after enduring such a tough year. He confessed to not being entirely happy that the season is over because he genuinely enjoys his job, yet simultaneously feeling relieved that a largely disappointing competitive run has finally reached its finish line.

"I wouldn’t say I am completely happy that the season is over, because I enjoy my job. But perhaps I am pleased it has ended because this really wasn’t our year in terms of results," the co-driver told RTBF when reflecting on the team's internal dynamics. He added that it felt like a shame to end the Rally1 era in such a manner, yet managing to close it out with a certain amount of style left the overall feelings somewhat mixed amidst lingering emotions.

The future remains highly uncertain for Thierry Neuville and his co-driver, with Hyundai yet to make any official announcement regarding next season's line-up. This lack of clarity has understandably heightened anxiety for the navigator as he faces a professional vacuum. Despite attempting to push the unsettling thoughts away over recent weeks, admitting the reality of the situation proves far more challenging while waiting alongside the team for definitive news.

"More and more. I have tried to put it out of my mind over the past few weeks, but I have to admit it isn’t easy. The team is also waiting for some news, just as we are. We will see what we are told over the coming weeks," he stated. With no further competitive duties lined up after Sardinia, the urgency to understand his next steps in the championship grows stronger by the day as preparation for upcoming rallies comes to a complete halt.
