Kalle Rovanpera has once again taken center stage in the development of the team's future rally machine after completing a crucial test session in Finland. This is believed to be only the second test for the two-time world champion with the brand's upcoming rally car, following a previous run in Spain at the end of September.
Visual documentation revealed a significant design departure from the machine spotted during the Spanish outing. A month prior, the Finnish star was seen piloting a coupe-style vehicle, whereas recent video footage showcased a prototype that much more closely resembles the production-based GR Yaris.
This testing strategy aligns with earlier reports from Spanish publication Revista Scratch a year ago, indicating that the Japanese manufacturer intended to evaluate two alternative body styles before selecting the optimal version. Toyota has indeed been putting differently styled prototypes through their paces since the spring.

However, this ongoing dual-path development has raised eyebrows across the service park with the start of the upcoming regulatory era drawing closer. It remains highly unusual for a manufacturer to maintain such vastly different aesthetic configurations at such an advanced stage of testing.
Naturally, this has fueled heavy speculation on online forums regarding whether two distinct models could theoretically debut in the top tier. Thanks to the tubular spaceframe architecture adopted in the top class since 2022, interchanging exterior body panels has become considerably more straightforward for engineering squads.
