VeeKay Keeps Momentum with Top-5 Finish at Portland

Rinus VeeKay continued his impressive run in the 2024 season with a fourth-place finish at the Grand Prix of Portland on Sunday, adding another strong result to an already standout year.

Starting from fifth, VeeKay held his position through the opening laps. A lightning-fast pit stop from his crew late in the race propelled him past Kyle Kirkwood into fourth, a spot he defended to the checkered flag despite finishing on used hard tires.

The result marks his third top-five finish in the last five races and solidifies his 10th place in the standings, making this his best season to date in IndyCar.

"I'm really enjoying it," VeeKay told FOX after the race. "Racing is fun when you're performing well. It's so tough. IndyCar is such a competitive sport, especially around a place like this where one or two tenths make a difference between starting 20th or into the Fast Six."

He credited his team, saying, "Really incredible job by Juncos Hollinger Racing and the #76 crew for giving me the car I need to be quick and be comfortable out there. And of course giving me the pit stops and the strategy to not even stay with, but also pass other guys out there in front. We're mixing it up out there. I feel like Kyle and I are basically going back and forth every race the last three. It's a great sign."

For Juncos Hollinger Racing, this achievement is significant. The team has never had a driver finish inside the top 10 of the championship, with a 16th place in 2023 being their best. With just five races remaining and momentum on VeeKay's side, they have a real chance to rewrite that history.
