Max Verstappen admitted that his Red Bull Racing squad was "just a little average" during the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. The Dutch driver openly criticized the team's tyre strategy and overall performance after crossing the finish line in third place.
Despite securing a podium finish, Verstappen could not hide his frustration following a complex race weekend. He stated that the Milton Keynes-based outfit relied too heavily on what had worked for them in recent rounds in Malaysia and Singapore, failing to adapt quickly enough to the demands of the Austin circuit.
Speaking in the post-race press conference, the Dutchman explained that opting for the softer compound tyres was a clear mistake. He noted that their order of tyre usage was wrong as competitors on harder compounds found significantly more grip throughout the afternoon.

Mercedes rival Andrea Kimi Antonelli converted pole position into a brilliant victory using a one-stop strategy on hard tyres, while Red Bull and Ferrari opted for two stops. Verstappen pointed out that the RB22 lacked standout strengths in either high-speed or low-speed corners, rendering the car merely average on race day.
Aside from strategy missteps, Verstappen revealed that power unit consistency issues and radio troubles severely hampered his ability to extract maximum performance. The team now faces a mountain of data to analyze ahead of the upcoming races.
