Ahead of the crucial race weekend in Austin that brings the first championship match point, Valentino Rossi shared his perspective on the stellar campaign delivered by Andrea Kimi Antonelli throughout the 2026 Formula 1 season. The Italian motorcycle racing icon has been closely following the remarkable rise of his young compatriot, recalling their early days crossing paths on local karting circuits long before global superstardom.
Speaking to Sky Sport, Valentino Rossi reminisced about the moment he first discovered the extraordinary talent of the championship leader at the Migliaro kart track. The multi-time world champion revealed how finding out that the youngster held every single lap record on that specific layout sparked his immediate curiosity to meet him back when he was still just a child driving small karts.
Now standing on the verge of securing a historic world drivers' championship title that could return the ultimate motorsport crown to Italy after a 73-year wait, the excitement surrounding the young phenom is palpable. Valentino Rossi emphasized that seeing an Italian driver perform at this elite level in Formula 1 is nothing short of a dream come true for motorsport fans across the country who have waited decades for this moment.
Despite the immense spotlight and mounting tension as the 2026 season approaches its potential climax in Texas, the veteran racer expressed complete confidence in the maturity and composure of the title contender. Valentino Rossi noted that based on how the entire campaign has unfolded, the young star has the entire situation completely under control heading into the crucial Sunday showdown.
Concluding his remarks, Valentino Rossi confirmed plans to reach out personally to offer words of encouragement prior to the lights going out on race day. However, he firmly reiterated his belief in the young driver's independent capabilities, maintaining that after such a dominant year, no outside advice is truly necessary.
