Lewis Hamilton explained his Singapore strategy error

Lewis Hamilton has finally opened up about his split-second strategy gamble at the Singapore Grand Prix that ultimately backfired and cost him a crucial podium finish. The seven-time world champion looked on course for a likely third place in Singapore but ultimately finished sixth after he overrode a call from the pit wall to follow his teammate.

The British driver chose to ignore instructions to follow Charles Leclerc into the pits under a virtual safety car period. Hamilton immediately apologised for the error of judgement over team radio after the race and admitted he had learned a painful lesson following the chaotic strategic miscalculation during the floodlit event.

Speaking in the official drivers' press conference ahead of the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Hamilton provided a detailed explanation of his mindset during those intense moments on track. First, you learn from these experiences. It is rare that I find myself in that position. Of course, the next couple of days didn't feel so great, but you live and you learn, Hamilton stated to the media.

He believes that constantly pushing the team and questioning norms is essential in his ongoing mission to return the iconic Italian constructor to the absolute front of the Formula 1 grid.
