Following a competitive full campaign in GT4 Australia, Cameron McLeod is now firmly setting his sights on a graduation to the GT3 category. The 21-year-old driver has just completed a valuable test session aboard a GT3-spec machine run by Haupt Racing Team and Ford, capping off a stellar run of international performances.
McLeod's racing journey throughout the year has been packed with high-level experience across multiple continents. Alongside his domestic commitments, he also contested two rounds of the GT4 European Series, securing three top-ten finishes highlighted by a podium appearance at Monza. Fresh off a strong outing in the European series finale at Portimao, he earned selection as one of six drivers chosen for the exclusive factory-backed test.
His inclusion in the evaluation stems from standout drives, including victories in the 2025 Mustang Challenge Le Mans Invitational which firmly placed the youngster on the manufacturer's radar. During the test, McLeod shared the track alongside Portimao co-driver Erik Evans, Monza co-driver Marco Signoretti, alongside American talents Robert Noaker, Sam Paley, and Jensen Altzman.

Reflecting on his first impressions behind the wheel of the heavier-machinery, Cameron McLeod admitted surprise at how closely the GT4 and GT3 platforms aligned in terms of driving dynamics. "The GT3 test itself went really good," McLeod said, as reported by Speedcafe. "From all the GT4 and Mustang Challenge stuff I’ve done, it’s all been pretty easy to jump in and go and all the staff were very helpful with the e-clutches and everything that’s new to GT3 cars."
He continued, "I hopped in it and was comfortable straight away. The car was set up mega and I really enjoyed it. Taking it from GT4 to GT3, it’s almost been the same, just a bit more aero in GT3, which obviously does it a lot better. But it’s the same sort of balance and philosophy between the two cars, which I was actually a bit surprised by."
This pivotal moment also represents a successful career pivot for Cameron McLeod away from the traditional Supercars ladder after his previous Super2 aspirations were cut short. Looking ahead, his ultimate trajectory involves climbing the manufacturer's motorsport ladder all the way toward the incoming Hypercar program slated for 2027.
With crucial laps now logged in the Mustang GT3 EVO, the rising star remains hopeful of locking in a promotional step in the near future. "I want a future with Ford and I wanted to have a bit of assurance that there was a bit more to it, and at the end of the day, they’ve kept their word and it’s been awesome to finally go through the ranks," McLeod added. Following an overseas stint tracking factory programs at Suzuka and Indianapolis, he now returns home for the season-ending GT4 Australia round at Sandown.
