The administrative stability of Swedish motorsport has hit a critical juncture as half of the Swedish Automobile Sports Federation's regional associations officially lost confidence in the governing board. This unprecedented rift centers squarely on the severe financial turmoil surrounding Rally Sweden, where mounting debts running into millions have severely jeopardized the future of the iconic championship round.
The underlying trouble surfaced when local investigative reports revealed that the event's parent company had systematically depleted funds specifically earmarked for future editions. Complicating matters further, chief executive Anna Nordqvist remained as the sole remaining board member of the struggling promotional company, leaving a massive leadership vacuum amid escalating debt collectors' pressures.
Per-Erik Norback, representing the Central Norrland regional association, did not mince words when addressing the federation's failure to exercise proper financial prudence over consecutive operating cycles. The ongoing cash drain has finally depleted all reserves, leaving the federation's broader membership to bear the heavy brunt of poor corporate governance.

"We believe the federation's board has failed to take the financial responsibility the situation requires. This has been going on for a long time, but the situation is now critical. It began with poor management, failed business dealings and money continually flowing out of the organization," Norback stated firmly regarding the systemic mismanagement.
The unified push backed by multiple regional associations demands an immediate extraordinary general meeting and a complete severing of ties between the national federation and the troubled event promoter. Critics argue that the governing body's primary mandate is to support grassroots members rather than act as commercial organizers or debt-absorbers within the WRC ecosystem.
"We are now in a situation where the money has run out, but the debts are enormous. And it is the members' money they have spent," Norback added, highlighting the profound frustration spreading across the regional motorsport community regarding the unmanaged financial liabilities.
Moving forward, these key stakeholders believe that offloading the event to independent commercial operators—similar to standard international frameworks—remains the only viable escape hatch. As reported by RallyJournal, the mounting pressure signals an unavoidable restructuring of how top-tier championship rounds are managed and funded across the region.
