Automotive giant Stellantis, alongside Metropole du Grand Paris and mobility provider Bolt, has announced a joint initiative to introduce autonomous mobility services in the Greater Paris region. This pilot project, presented under the European Commission's ADACities initiative, is officially scheduled to hit public roads in 2028 with a long-term vision to expand the service across approximately 30 municipalities by 2030.
The initial testing phase will take place in up to five municipalities situated in the north-western area of Greater Paris. During this critical operational window, project leaders will evaluate real-world performance, passenger safety measures, seamless integration with existing public transport networks, and the overall economic, social, and environmental impact of deploying self-driving vehicles in a densely populated urban landscape.
Following the preliminary trials, the consortium plans to assess conditions for a broader scale implementation in a second phase. The overarching goal of the experiment is to understand how autonomous vehicles can effectively complement current public transportation infrastructure while directly addressing the evolving mobility needs of urban citizens and providing public decision-makers with reliable data.

The collaborative project relies on three primary stakeholders coordinating different pillars of execution. Metropole du Grand Paris will oversee local authority coordination, regulatory frameworks for real-world testing, and public interest objectives. Meanwhile, Bolt through its specialized division Bolt Autonomous Driving Solutions will spearhead service integration and deployment planning.
To power the physical fleet, Stellantis will supply advanced vehicles built on specialized L4-Ready Platforms. Furthermore, Pony.ai has been identified as the potential autonomous driving technology supplier, while high-performance processing will be driven by the NVIDIA Hyperion platform alongside the advanced Halos safety system to guarantee maximum operational security.
