The Hidden Energy Strategy Behind Marc Marquez's 2026 MotoGP Success

Marc Marquez has explained the reasoning behind his restrained demeanor on sprint podiums, revealing a deliberate mental strategy to preserve his energy levels throughout demanding Grand Prix weekends in 2026. The reigning world champion often displayed a serious expression even after stellar results, such as his second-place finish in Austria and taking his seventh sprint win of the season in Japan.

The Ducati star noted that suppressing his emotions is a calculated move to prevent mental exhaustion before the main Sunday race, where the largest points haul is up for grabs under the intense modern MotoGP format.

“It’s not that I’m serious; I’m saving my energy. Emotional ups and downs take a lot out of you. Physically, we can cope because we’re well trained. But during a Grand Prix, adrenaline levels rise sharply and then drop suddenly. That’s exhausting,” Marquez told Motorsport.com.

This disciplined approach stems from struggles during the first half of the season, when the Spaniard battled right shoulder limitations following a crash in Indonesia the previous year. The nerve compression issue was only resolved after he underwent surgery during the French Grand Prix weekend.

Despite successful treatment, the accumulated strain on his upper body forced him to balance intensive physiotherapy alongside the grueling demands of back-to-back racing sessions introduced with the sprint format.

“During the first half of the season, I was completely empty by Sunday. I would wake up and all I wanted to do was spend the whole day lying on the sofa. And it wasn’t a question of being physically unfit,” Marquez explained.

He pointed out that his cycling data and cardiovascular fitness metrics remained solid throughout, proving that the fatigue was deeply tied to the emotional highs and lows of competing at the absolute limit.
