Guenther Steiner has urged Cadillac to abandon further development of its struggling 2026 Formula 1 car and shift resources to the 2027 project. The call comes as the American team endures a difficult debut season.
Cadillac entered the championship with an experienced driver line-up of Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas. However, the team has faced reliability issues and currently sits 11th in the constructors' standings without a point.
The former Haas team principal believes stopping 2026 development is the most logical step, given the team's significant deficit. He also anticipates an official announcement soon after Marcin Budkowski replaced Graeme Lowdon as team principal.

"There were a lot of expectations created. If they had been last, fine, but they are so far off, they have no chance to be second-last," Steiner explained on The Red Flags Podcast. "We will get an announcement that this season is over, let's focus on '27. There is no point doing anything for '26 anymore. Whatever you've got in the pipeline, do it, but then just focus on '27. I think that Marcin, when he gets in there, that's the first thing he will be doing. He will not try to make a new front wing for the race in Abu Dhabi. He doesn't care about it anymore because that train has gone or that ship has sailed."
Steiner also criticized Cadillac's management for arriving with inflated expectations. "I think it's just like they thought it was easier and didn't believe anybody," he said. "There are a lot of people who are not from F1, and they just think: 'OK, we do it, and why do all these people tell us it's difficult? We know better anyway.'"
Steiner's comments highlight the mounting pressure on Cadillac during their debut season. With a leadership change and potential shift in focus, the team's immediate future remains uncertain, but such a decision could lay a stronger foundation for the years ahead.
