Sergio Perez has officially committed his long-term future to the Cadillac Formula 1 project by signing a multi-year contract extension. The major announcement arrives just ahead of the Mexican driver's home grand prix weekend, guaranteeing his presence with the US-owned outfit through at least the 2029 world championship season.
Perez originally joined F1's newest expansion team for its 2026 debut following his departure from Red Bull Racing. Despite navigating the inevitable ups and downs of a challenging and inconsistent inaugural campaign for the American squad, the 36-year-old veteran has successfully rediscovered his peak form, consistently holding his ground against experienced team-mate Valtteri Bottas.
Having adopted a hands-on approach to the project since its inception, Perez has forged strong working relationships with team CEO Dan Towriss and General Motors chief Mark Reuss. These robust ties ultimately convinced the experienced racer to pledge an additional three years to the team's ambitious future roadmap.

"Joining Cadillac Formula 1 Team from day one was a project I truly believed in, and extending my commitment feels like a natural continuation of this chapter," Perez stated regarding his fresh terms with the growing operation.
He emphasized that constructing a Formula 1 constructor from the ground up demands immense patience, relentless effort, and sustained dedication, noting that the collective progress achieved so far has been exceptionally rewarding. Perez stressed that substantial work remains ahead as he prepares for the next three years of development.
Team executive Dan Towriss echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of retaining veteran leadership. Towriss noted that securing Perez's proven talent provides vital continuity and reinforces the strong foundational framework established during the squad's debut campaign.
The contract milestone coincides with a landmark weekend for Perez as he prepares to contest his 300th grand prix start in Formula 1 at Mexico City. To commemorate the momentous occasion, the six-time grand prix winner is set to thrill local fans with a dynamic street demonstration run.
