The stunning debut of the Citroen 2 CV Concept left a massive impact at the Paris Motor Show 2026. Weeks after its grand unveiling, the French manufacturer has officially released the initial illustrations and design sketches that ultimately paved the way for the physical prototype. Pierre Leclerq, Citroen Design Director, firmly stated that no other carmaker in the world can boast a heritage like the 2 CV, leaving zero room for error during the development process.
Aesthetically, the final concept car remains remarkably faithful to the early design drawings. It prominently features distinct round asymmetric headlights, a striated bonnet inspired by the earliest generations of the 2 CV, and an arched roofline extending seamlessly toward the rear bumper. These styling cues effectively pay homage to the rich historical language that defined the legendary model over decades of automotive history.
Pronounced wheel arches, clean body panels, and retro steel wheels round out the striking overall package. Reviving an icon is never an easy feat, as it requires distilling complex historical lines into pure simplicity while adapting every single detail for the modern era. Pierre Icard, Citroen Exterior Designer, explained that the design team deliberately humanized the vehicle, incorporating elements like a manually rollable canvas roof to evoke a genuine sense of childhood wonder.

Inside the cabin, the connection to the past materializes vividly through bench seats, a single-spoke steering wheel, a central console gear lever, a removable Radioen unit, and a bespoke storage basket. Andreas Stump, Citroen Interior Designer, noted that the interior layout was entirely guided by the functionalism and minimalist spirit of the original 2 CV, perfectly matching current comfort standards.
This ambitious concept successfully bridges decades of automotive heritage with contemporary design philosophy. According to FormulaPassion reporting, Citroen's dedication to preserving the joyful spirit and minimalist ethos of its greatest classic has thoroughly captivated enthusiasts and industry experts alike.
