George Russell delivered a stunning performance to secure pole position for the sprint race at the 2026 F1 Dutch Grand Prix in Zandvoort. The Mercedes driver set a time of 1:11.567, edging out Lando Norris by just 0.041 seconds.
The session, held on a drying track, was incredibly tight at the top. The top four drivers were separated by less than one-tenth of a second, highlighting the remarkable performance balance among the leading teams. Russell timed his final lap in SQ3 to perfection to claim the top spot.
Norris of McLaren had to settle for second, just 0.041s behind Russell. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc was third fastest for Ferrari, and Norris's teammate Oscar Piastri completed the top four, 0.099s down on the polesitter.

Kimi Antonelli endured a dramatic session, sliding off into the gravel during SQ1 but recovering to take fifth on his final attempt. On the other hand, Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, racing for Red Bull and Racing Bulls respectively, ended the session in 11th and 12th places.
This result gives Mercedes a strong signal for the sprint race later. But with such a thin margin at the front, anything can happen. Can Russell convert his pole into a sprint win? We'll find out soon.
