The intense short-format race at Lusail was brought to an abrupt halt after a terrifying opening-lap incident involving Francesco Bagnaia triggered a red flag. Tension instantly gripped the paddock as marshals rushed to clear the track following the high-speed collision.
At the start of the race, the factory Ducati rider made an exceptional launch off the line, surging into third place right behind pole-sitter Marco Bezzecchi and his formidable teammate Marc Marquez. However, the battle for position turned disastrous as the field compressed heading into the final corner of the opening lap.
Chaos erupted when returning rider Fermin Aldeguer misjudged his braking zone while attempting an overtaking maneuver. The missed braking point sent his machine slamming directly into the side of Bagnaia, launching the double world champion into a violent and frightening highside crash.

Bagnaia remained conscious following the heavy impact but was ultimately carried away from the scene on a stretcher, prompting race control to immediately display the red flags. The swift action ensured medical personnel could safely attend to the fallen rider.
Following the incident, race control handed Aldeguer a double long lap penalty for reckless riding. Officials confirmed that the restarted race would run over ten laps, shortened by one lap from the original distance due to the earlier delay.
