Red Bull: Hadjar Needs More Time, Madrid Return Doubtful

Red Bull team principal Laurent Mekies has provided an update on Isack Hadjar's recovery from a wrist injury, suggesting the Frenchman is unlikely to race at the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid this weekend.

Hadjar sustained the injury during summer break training, forcing him to miss the Zandvoort and Monza rounds. Liam Lawson has been drafted into Red Bull, with Yuki Tsunoda stepping up at Racing Bulls. Interestingly, Hadjar sought advice from MotoGP legend Marc Marquez, who has battled long-term injuries in recent years and admitted to returning too early at times.

Mekies stressed that Hadjar's full recovery is the absolute priority. "Look, Isack is okay," he told Canal+ during FP1. "He can't drive now so, obviously, I'm not going to tell you he's happy – because he's not. But the absolute priority is his recovery. We have no reason to take risks with it. His season so far has been fantastic, he's very young, he improves every time he drives the car, so it's important for him to return when he's 100%."

On the possibility of Hadjar returning at the new Madring circuit, Mekies was cautious: "Madrid is a few days from now, so that's tricky. We'll reevaluate his situation, but targeting Madrid probably is tricky. We're taking things one race at a time and looking at it together in a more rational way. The priority is ensuring he returns at 100% with zero risks for his future."

Despite being sidelined, Hadjar received a boost when the International Court of Appeal reinstated Pierre Gasly's speeding penalties from the Monaco Grand Prix, restoring Hadjar's original podium finish. This adds to his points tally and provides encouragement during his recovery.

Red Bull's cautious approach signals a long-term investment in Hadjar's potential, avoiding the pitfalls of rushing a young driver back too soon—a lesson learned from other motorsport stars.
