Haas Team Principal Ayao Komatsu has issued high praise for Oliver Bearman, describing him as being ready to step up as a team leader in Formula 1, despite the formal confirmation of his contract extension with the Banbury-based squad still pending.
The British youngster has enjoyed another standout campaign, showcasing his considerable talents and exceptional race craft on track. Bearman currently sits 13th in the Drivers' World Championship standings with 23 points, holding a 16-point advantage over teammate Esteban Ocon, who is set to depart the team at the conclusion of the season.
Ocon will be replaced by fellow Ferrari Driver Academy alumnus and Formula 2 title contender Rafael Camara, who has signed a multi-year deal with the American outfit. Speaking to the media, including Motorsport Week, following Camara's confirmation, Komatsu addressed questions regarding Bearman's official status alongside the incoming rookie.

"I cannot go into certain contractual details, but for me, of course, I'd like to continue with Ollie," Komatsu stated. He praised the driver's incredible talent, remarkable growth throughout the year, and highlighted his impressive composure during the Singapore Grand Prix as proof of his readiness to lead the squad.
As the series heads to Austin for the United States Grand Prix and the subsequent round in Mexico City, momentum is on Bearman's side. The 21-year-old secured a strong ninth-place finish at the Circuit of the Americas last year, followed by a career-best fourth place in Mexico after a brilliant wheel-to-wheel battle with Max Verstappen.
