Raul Fernandez Ruled Out of Australian MotoGP 2026 After Being Unfit

The injury toll at Phillip Island continues to rise as Raul Fernandez has officially been declared unfit for the remainder of the Australian Grand Prix weekend. The Spanish rider, competing for the Trackhouse squad, was forced to withdraw from Sunday's main race following a severe flare-up of pain in his right hand.

Prior to this unfortunate setback, the paddock bore witness to the remarkable grit shown by the young Spaniard despite dealing with physical limitations. Having previously sustained fractures to two fingers on his right hand during the preceding Indonesian Grand Prix, he courageously soldiered on through the practice sessions.

Despite suffering a minor tumble during FP1, he stunned onlookers by claiming a brilliant second-fastest time during the crucial Practice session. However, the physical toll caught up with him during the Sprint race, where mounting agony compelled him to voluntarily pull into the pits and retire from the contest.

Immediately following the conclusion Saturday's track action, a thorough medical assessment was conducted by the MotoGP Medical Director to determine the extent of the damage. The evaluation revealed that while the underlying finger fracture remained in a stable position, severe inflammation had developed in the soft tissues surrounding the injury site.

Confirming the withdrawal ahead of race day, the team released an official statement regarding their rider's status: "After the race, Fernandez went straight to a medical assessment with the MotoGP Medical Director and it was found that while the finger fracture is stable, there is inflammation of the soft tissue around the fracture. He has now been declared unfit to take part in Sunday's Grand Prix and will travel to Malaysia for a further medical check, scheduled for Thursday, in order to determine if he will be able to race in Sepang."
