The technological partnership between Stellantis and Wayve has demonstrated significant progress in future mobility during the Wave by Vento 2026 event. Two iconic vehicle models specially modified for the occasion successfully showcased a supervised Level 2++ automated driving system. This milestone reinforces both companies' commitment to integrating advanced artificial intelligence into a diverse range of commercial vehicle platforms.
During a dedicated panel discussion at the event, Antonio Filosa, CEO of Stellantis, alongside Alex Kendall, co-founder and CEO of Wayve, examined how artificial intelligence can transform the automotive industry. Both leaders highlighted the immense potential of utilizing this advanced technology to build mobility solutions that are not only more inclusive but also deeply oriented toward everyday user needs across the globe.
The custom-built Fiat 500e electric prototype and the luxury Maserati Grecale SUV prepared for the gathering proved capable of operating door-to-door autonomous functions completely hands-free. This success was achieved by combining the Wayve AI Driver system with the STLA AutoDrive architecture. Notably, the transition from initial integration to actual road testing took less than four weeks following a previous successful integration on the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The Wayve AI Driver system is engineered with full capabilities to interpret real-world driving scenarios and make instantaneous decisions without relying on high-definition maps or rigid manual rulebooks. When paired with Stellantis' platform, this technology demonstrates high flexibility, adapting precisely to the unique driving characteristics of each vehicle type. Commercialization of this supervised autonomous system is targeted to launch in 2028, starting primarily in the North American automotive market.
As reported by FormulaPassion, the strategic partnership officially announced in May of this year extends beyond intermediate driving assistance. Both companies are also laying the groundwork for Level 4 autonomous technology deployment using ready-to-use platforms from Stellantis for driverless transport services. All subsequent developments will undergo rigorous technical validation to meet the highest operational safety standards in the future.
