The Formula 1 paddock has been rocked by a mid-season driver change. Haas has officially announced that rising star Rafael Camara will take over Esteban Ocon's seat starting from this weekend's Sao Paulo Grand Prix. The decision follows Ocon's permanent dismissal from the team after a fallout with team principal Ayao Komatsu.

Camara, a 21-year-old Brazilian, currently leads the Formula 2 standings. As a member of the Ferrari young driver academy, he is widely regarded as one of the most promising talents in motorsport. His rise has been meteoric; after winning the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship, he secured the Formula 3 title in 2025. He is now on the verge of making history by winning the F2 crown in his rookie season.
Camara's performance during a private TPC test at Portimao in August was a decisive factor for Haas. The American outfit maintains close technical ties with Ferrari, and next year they will field a lineup consisting entirely of Ferrari juniors. This move also marks the end of Esteban Ocon's tenure at Haas, whose performance was deemed underwhelming compared to his teammate Ollie Bearman throughout the 2026 season.

For Camara, making his debut in front of his home crowd in Brazil is both an emotional milestone and a significant challenge. Should he secure this year's F2 title, he will join an elite list of drivers, including Charles Leclerc and George Russell, who have claimed consecutive titles in the feeder series before graduating to the pinnacle of Formula 1.
