After that, he moved to the United States to compete in the IndyCar Series in 2025, where he made history by becoming the first rookie since 1983 to secure pole position at the legendary Indianapolis 500.
Now, after several test sessions with the Peugeot 9X8 in 2026, Shwartzman is ready to return to the WEC fold. “I am extremely happy to be back in the FIA WEC after my time in the United States. I have missed endurance racing a lot these past two seasons and I am very excited to be joining Team Peugeot TotalEnergies,” he said in an official statement. “From my first interactions with the team, I felt welcomed in a very professional and ambitious environment. The 2027 project is particularly stimulating and I can't wait to contribute to this new adventure.”
This decision adds to Peugeot's competitiveness as they look to rise to the top of Hypercar. With Shwartzman's rich experience—from single-seaters to endurance—and his ability to adapt quickly, many believe he could be the key to Peugeot's resurgence. Especially since he has shone on demanding circuits like Austin, showing he has a champion's mentality.
