Rising star Pedro Acosta has come down firmly against MotoGP's new 2027 race weekend format, warning of increased stress, a greater risk of physical injuries, and the controversial loss of the Sunday warm-up session. Speaking exclusively ahead of the event, the young Spaniard raised serious concerns regarding the direction of the championship.

Under the upcoming regulations, MotoGP will introduce a separate Sprint qualifying session on Friday at the expense of traditional practice time. Saturday qualifying will then exclusively set the Grand Prix grid, requiring every rider to take part in Q1 before the fastest 12 riders progress to battle it out in Q2.

Pedro Acosta believes that adding high-risk competitive sessions is entirely the wrong direction for a championship that already features exhausting Sprint races across all 22 rounds of the global calendar, placing immense pressure on the human element of the sport.

"We have no choice, for this it don't really matter what we think about it," Pedro Acosta said at Mandalika on Thursday. "But it will be a really tough year, because you know how much stress a rider has during a MotoGP weekend, because many times the weekend starts already on Wednesday with pre-events and all these things."

The future Ducati factory signing, who is set to join Marc Marquez after parting ways with KTM, strongly emphasized the harsh physical reality of motorcycle racing compared to four-wheeled motorsport categories where a protective cockpit absorbs the brutal impacts.

"We are risking a lot already. We are not racing cars. When we crash, even if it's a small one, it's our body that touches the ground and not the cockpit. For this, I think we should think about it. We are risking already too much," Pedro Acosta concluded, urging the championship organizers to carefully re-evaluate the physical toll inflicted upon the grid.
