Formula 1 completes an unexpected three-race run across Asia this weekend as the Singapore Grand Prix brings the Azerbaijan-Malaysia-Singapore triple-header to a close. The 4.927km Marina Bay Street Circuit remains one of the most demanding venues on the calendar, combining tight street sections, heavy braking zones and unforgiving barriers with the heat and humidity of Singapore’s night race.

Sunday’s race will run for 62 laps and mark the 17th Singapore Grand Prix held as part of the Formula 1 World Championship, with the event first joining the calendar in 2008. This weekend also brings another first, with Singapore hosting a sprint weekend for the first time as the sixth and final sprint round of the 2026 season.

The last six editions have produced six different winners, while the four races held since Singapore returned from its two-year COVID absence have been won by four different teams. Mercedes is the most successful constructor at Marina Bay with five victories, while Ferrari and Red Bull have four each. Lewis Hamilton leads the current grid with four Singapore victories, although the Ferrari driver has not won at the circuit since 2018 when he was still with Mercedes.

George Russell is the most recent winner after controlling last year’s race from pole for Mercedes, but returns in very different circumstances after a devastating end to the weekend in Malaysia. Russell retired late at Sepang with a power unit problem while teammate Kimi Antonelli finished second, stretching the Italian’s championship advantage to 84 points with seven rounds remaining.

No driver has ever recovered from a deficit that large with seven rounds left to win the championship, leaving Russell needing a comeback without precedent. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen arrives in Singapore with renewed momentum after claiming his first victory of 2026 at Sepang and delivering the first F1 win for Red Bull Ford Powertrains. Singapore, however, remains one of the few races the Dutchman has never won.
