Despite an underwhelming conclusion to the race weekend, the premier class championship must remain deeply appreciative of the legendary southern venue, according to rising star Pedro Acosta. The historic circuit will drop off the upcoming calendar as the Australian Grand Prix prepares to relocate its home base to Adelaide starting next season.

This controversial relocation move has sparked intense debates throughout the paddock. While the traditional coastal venue famously comes with severe logistical complications, such as geographical remoteness and notoriously unreliable late-season weather patterns, its iconic layout has consistently delivered unforgettable, world-class racing spectacles for decades.

That unique racing magic was on full display during Saturday's Sprint encounter, featuring a fierce multi-lap tussle for supremacy between Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez. The thrilling battle ultimately reached a dramatic halt when a high-speed crash at turn eight resulted in a fractured wrist for the championship contender.

However, the unpredictable local weather had the final say in the track's premier class chapter on Sunday. Severely reduced visibility prevented medical helicopters from safely operating, forcing race direction to officially abandon the final Grand Prix event scheduled at the venue for safety reasons.

For the factory KTM rider, torrential conditions initially represented his best strategic opening to fight for podium contention or a shock victory. Instead, the severe severity of the gale-force winds stripped away any opportunity to compete, marking a sorrowful exit from a beloved fan-favorite layout.

"I was asking for rain but I was not asking for that wind, you know," Acosta told TNT Sports following the official cancellation announcement.

"A bit sad to say goodbye to the Island like that. But we enjoyed many good races around the Island. For this we have to be very grateful to the Island, to the fans, and to all that Phillip Island gave to us."

The championship now shifts its complete focus toward the remaining four rounds left on the calendar. Consecutive triple-header stops in Malaysia and Qatar will bridge the final phase, ahead of the traditional European season finale hosted across Portimao and Valencia in November.
