Marc Marquez stated that the track conditions at Phillip Island were acceptable to stage the Australian Grand Prix main race if visibility had improved before the final cancellation call was made.

Sunday's final grand prix event at the iconic coastal circuit was ultimately called off following lengthy weather delays throughout the afternoon schedule.

While the track surface was extremely wet from heavy downpours, the primary issue preventing the race from starting was poor visibility preventing the medical helicopter from flying safely.

The Ducati star was due to start from pole position after securing a 10-point championship lead by winning the Saturday sprint race.

Meanwhile, primary title challenger Jorge Martin had suffered a heavy crash resulting in a fractured wrist earlier in the weekend, making the race cancellation a fortunate turn of events.

Speaking on the grid after a formal parade lap following the cancellation announcement, the reigning champion expressed heartfelt sympathy for the loyal grandstand fans.

The conditions were acceptable, but unluckily the medical helicopter was not ready to fly due to the low visibility overhead.

Very sorry for all of you, we were ready as riders to race, but today we couldn't proceed safely, he concluded.
