As the lights go out at Zandvoort this weekend, a new face will appear on the Cadillac pit wall. Marcin Budkowski, recently announced as Team Principal, faces the immediate challenge of bridging the team's operations split between the UK and the US.
The shock decision to replace Graeme Lowdon last week sent ripples through the F1 paddock. But Budkowski, a seasoned aerodynamicist with stints at McLaren and Ferrari, is unfazed. He sees this as an opportunity to align the team's strengths as it builds its foundations in the ground-effect era.
In his first media session, the Pole emphasized that his priority is to listen. "I need to meet the people, understand how they work, and how departments interconnect," he said. He also highlighted a major risk for Cadillac: the disconnect between trackside operations and the factory, especially after a string of reliability issues in the first half of the season.

Budkowski plans to split his first week between the Silverstone factory and the Zandvoort circuit. "I want to see both sides of the team and how they collaborate," he added. This move is seen as crucial given the team also has bases in Fishers, Indiana, and other hubs in North Carolina and Michigan.
He is not turning a blind eye to the potential across the Atlantic. "There's a lot of technical expertise in the US. They're even sending spaceships to Mars! It would be foolish not to look at the talent there," he said. Yet, he acknowledges integration won't be immediate. "It will take time, but it's a long-term investment."
With his extensive paddock experience, including as Alpine's Executive Director, Budkowski is expected to accelerate Cadillac's growth. This is their debut season, and every detail could make a difference. Fans will hope his new leadership brings fresh momentum amid F1's intense competition.
