The tension in the Moto2 paddock is palpable as the 2027 season approaches. Intact GP, the team currently leading the championship standings, is waiting on the decisions of its two star riders, Senna Agius and Manuel Gonzalez, before finalising its lineup for next year. Both are heavily linked with a MotoGP seat at Tech3 KTM, and team manager Jurgen Lingg is well aware of the speculation.

“Of course, I hear the rumours too!” Lingg told Elliott York at Silverstone. “Anyhow, if Manu or Senna moves, in MotoGP it can be only one [of them]. And let's say if Senna moves, maybe Manu can go to Superbike. If not, we are very happy to continue with him and do another year with [at least] one of our riders.”

Lingg's comments suggest a complex scenario. Agius, currently third in the standings, is tipped as the favourite to join Luca Marini at Guenther Steiner's team. Meanwhile, Gonzalez, the championship leader, has an alternative path to WorldSBK if the MotoGP door remains closed. However, his chances in WorldSBK appear to be fading after Ducati reportedly favoured Franco Morbidelli as the replacement for Nicolo Bulega at the factory team.

If Gonzalez fails to secure a competitive Superbike seat, he is likely to stay in Moto2. “With Senna, it's very clear: If he cannot go up, he will stay with us. With Manu, it's a different story. But I think he needs a really good Superbike seat. Otherwise, he will continue with us,” Lingg stated.

The transfer market is heating up with Dani Holgado (Gresini Ducati) and David Alonso (Honda) already confirmed to move up to MotoGP. Meanwhile, their Intact teammate Izan Guevara is expected to join the new 850cc/Pirelli era with Pramac Yamaha. If either Agius or Gonzalez lands at Tech3, and Bulega moves to VR46, there would be five rookies on the 2027 MotoGP grid—a phenomenon not seen in recent years.

One intriguing note: if Gonzalez wins the Moto2 title this season but remains in the intermediate class, he would become the first rider to attempt to defend the title since Johann Zarco in 2016. A challenge that would certainly add to the narrative of his career journey.
