A clandestine gathering among MotoGP riders during the race weekend has ignited intense discussions regarding the power dynamics and future direction of the championship. The secret meeting, held on a Thursday night, was convened to address ongoing uncertainties surrounding the upcoming Qatar Grand Prix amid escalating regional tensions in the Middle East.

Marco Bezzecchi, who clinched the fastest time during Friday's practice sessions, admitted that the summit was highly constructive although he refrained from disclosing specific outcomes. The Italian rider highlighted the maturity shown by the grid in voicing their concerns openly without resulting in the kind of fierce clashes typically witnessed on the tarmac.

"I think it's impossible to get everyone to agree," Bezzecchi told GPOne. "But it was a very positive meeting, in my opinion, because we were all very mature about voicing our opinions without tearing each other apart. That’s what happens on the track. I can’t say anything about the discussion. Though, honestly, I don’t know how much good it did. We did it more for ourselves, to talk it over among the riders."

This private assembly has once again brought to light the ongoing debate surrounding the formation of a formal rider union. The concept has previously faced pushback from championship management, with officials maintaining that the series operates with an open-door policy for addressing rider grievances. Efforts to establish a unified association previously came close in 2023 under the brief guidance of former racer Sylvain Guintoli.

Adding weight to the movement, Enea Bastianini stressed that competitors currently hold far too little decision-making authority within the paddock. He emphasized that while organizers and teams hold significant leverage, the championship fundamentally relies on the athletes who risk their lives on the track every weekend.
